On scene investigation of animal abuse at Brighton, Paris farms done; clean-up underway

kcsd-doorThe on-scene investigation of animal abuse at two Western Kenosha County farms has been completed and clean-up — including volunteer help from local farmers — is now underway, says the latest Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department’s media release on the case.

From the release: The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department has concluded the “on scene” portion of the animal abuse investigation in Brighton and Paris Townships.  A rendering service along with the assistance of Sheriff Beth, the Kansasville Fire Department and the Paris Fire Department were able to safely remove the carcasses from the two properties.  The clean-up of the two properties is underway with area farmers volunteering to assist in the efforts. Sheriff Beth remains committed to the completion of this process and has given the … family one week to rectify the situation at the farms.  The Sheriff has directed Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives to conduct three daily inspections of the progress. The 15 calves that were relocated from the 200 block of 248th Avenue, Brighton, address remain at another location where they are being cared for. All of the livestock at the 248th Avenue address have been removed.  The 100 plus remaining cattle at the 20800 block of First Street, Paris, address will remain at this location.  The investigation revealed that these animals appeared to have been fed and in good health.  This case is being forwarded to the Kenosha County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The Sheriff’s Department initially responded to a complaint about the situation at the 248th Avenue farm on Friday afternoon. At least 52 deceased calves were found in and around the barns on the property. Subsequent investigation revealed additional dead calves at the First Street farm, which is operated by the same family, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Note: The Sheriff’s Department has identified a family name associated with both locations, however westofthei.com does not name people in situations with potential legal ramifications until people are charged in court.
