If you’re heading out to Whitewater or Madison or thereabouts next week via Highway 12 you should check out this closure notice announced by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation regarding the Highway 50/Highway 12 interchange:
Beginning 6 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is scheduled to close the entrance ramp from WIS 50 to US 12 westbound, in Walworth County. The closure is expected to last through the evening hours of Thursday, May 21. This closure will affect the morning commute on May 12 through the evening commute on May 21. This work is part of the US 12/WIS 50 project which began in spring of 2014. This closure was not originally anticipated to complete the work on this ramp. However, crews since discovered the condition of the pavement on the ramp has deteriorated beyond the point of economical repair. This will require more intensive work on the ramp which requires it to be shut down to traffic. Detour for WIS 50 westbound motorists: Proceed through the US 12/WIS 50 Interchange to access Edwards Blvd.; go north on Edwards Blvd., continuing as it turns into Sheridan Springs Road; continue west on Sheridan Springs Road to County H (Interchange North Road); Go east on County H to access the US 12 westbound on-ramp at the WIS 120 Interchange. The contractor will take advantage of the closure by performing other work items on the ramp that were to take place over several weeks of night time closures. WisDOT has scheduled this closure to occur prior to the Memorial Day weekend, in an attempt to limit disruption to traffic related to the summer tourist season. More information about the project can be found on 511 Wisconsin at http://projects.511wi.gov/us12wis50/
Thank you so much for this notice! We have to pick up Kierstin from Whitewater next week so I’m glad to know I have to take a detour.
