Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department detectives are investigating damage done inside the former Wilmot Grade School building on Fox River Road (Highway W) in Wilmot.
Extensive damage to the building was discovered Tuesday, said Sheriff’s Department Lt. Robert Croeker. A total value of the damage was not available this afternoon.
“Whoever was in there was in there for quite a while,” Croeker said.
The Sheriff’s Department has not identified a suspect so far but is processing evidence found at the scene. The department is also reaching out to the community including the schools in an effort to turn up possible suspects.
The building, which has not housed classes since the spring of 2011, was set to open as a private autism therapy clinic this summer. The Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated School District still owns the building, but it is under contract to be sold, said district administrator George Steffen.
The district anticipates that most cost to the district from the damage will be covered by insurance, Steffen said.
If anyone has information about this incident, they are encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Department at 262-605-5100 or Kenosha County Crime Stoppers at 800-807-TIPS or 262-656-7333.
