Wilmot UHS is national Academic Decathlon champion for 2014-15

The Wilmot Union High School Academic Decathlon team has won the national championship.

The Wilmot team won the Division 2 title last week at the competition held in Anaheim, California.

Wilmot UHS team members are: Carlie Banchi, Carl Simmons, Alyssa Gregory, Joey Burba, Angela Schumacher, Johny Weber, Mason Nindl, Ashley Dabbs and Althea Disse. The team’s coach is Don Serkowski.

In addition, Simmons earned a $500 scholarship, Burba a $750 scholarship, and Weber and Banchi $1,000 scholarships for amassing top scores in their respective classes.

Academic Decathlon® is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students. Each high school enters a team of nine students: 3 “A” or Honor students (3.750 – 4.00 GPA), 3 “B” or Scholastic students (3.00 – 3.749 GPA), and 3 “C or below” Varsity students (0.00 – 2.999 GPA).

    So proud of all of you!!! I know how much hard work you put into this event. I think that you should be so proud of yourselves. There should be more newspaper and TV coverage of events such as this. 🙂
