Silver Lake cleanup spring 2015 coverage

Sunday afternoon, 27 volunteers went around Silver Lake wearing vests and carrying garbage bags, picking up garbage. They spent about three hours picking up a lot of stuff, especially stuff that looked like it had been thrown from cars. There were almost twice as many volunteers as last year, and fortunately, there was less garbage.

They would like to do a clean up in the Fall. The possible date is October 4th.

So they use a rescue squad to haul bags of garbage ? I would think out of all those voulenters on of them would have a pick up truck, or hey how about one of the towns small dump trucks ?

    1. That looks like a SLFD vehicle to me by the markings, not SLRS. Equipment truck maybe?

  2. Allen Dunski says:

Yes, the SLFD was nice enough to help with the clean-up and yes we had use of the equipment van. Funny you title your thoughts as “wow”….where was your pickup truck and where were you when the clean-up was happening? Know what you are talking about before commenting please

  3. Greg Galich says:

It is an SLFD Unit. Silver Lake is working on a shoe string budget. I am so happy to see people volunteering to clean up. This is a public works job for both Silver Lake and the county. There just is not enough of them to go around. There are many people that complain and are not willing to do something about it. Follow the lead of the good folks that are cleaning up.

  4. Bernard Punsley says:

@”WOW”….I was there….didn’t notice you showing up to help us out. In fact, I did not see ANY “Red Jackets” in the work crew!! Go figure!

  5. Pete Toman says:

I was there picking up garbage and I would like to thank Allen, Greg and the others for solving a problem instead of complaining. I hope it is a start to many problems solved in Silver Lake. Maybe even a start of positive posts for Darren to review.

  6. Brady VanHeirseele says:

I was also there and appreciate those that organized the event. You don’t have to choose a political side to clean up your community. We all play a part.

  7. Interesting says:

When the “dissolvers” thought it was a SLRS truck it was a bad thing. But because it was a SLFD truck,, everything is ok. Funny how someone volunteers once in the life for a village event, and all of the sudden they have to post about it to make sure people knew they did. smh and laughing at the same time.

  8. Pete Toman says:

Interesting that someone is afaid to show his or her name. It is a shame you need to spew hate at peaple who try to help the village.

  9. Allen Dunski says:

@Interesting……who exactly are you referring to with your statement? I believe you are a little backwards in your thoughts considering most of the people that helped were “dissolvers” and knew exactly what truck was being used and where that truck was from. I would also like to know who you think volunteered “once in the life” for this village event?!? More critical nonsense from someone who has no clue what they are talking about…….I wish all the keyboard quarterbacks would actually stop staring at a computer screen and volunteer to help!

  10. scooter says:

Petey you mean the same way puggy won’t show his name??? Pot meet kettle lol sincerely yours,
    Neighboring village onlooker

  11. Pete Toman says:

Just hiding like you Scooter. The difference is that he states facts instead of name calling.

  12. to Allen says:

Of course most of the people who helped THAT day were dissolvers. They were trying to win an election and needed some good publicity. When is the last time you saw any of them volunteering for anything before this event?

  13. Pete T says:

I don’t check in with angry little peaple hiding on the internet before I help out. Instead of being sad about an election outcome, join in next time.

  14. A look at the calendar shows says:

that the election had already happened.
I believe the clean up was posted.
Open to all? Right? Yes, right!

  15. Map? says:

Did someone draw a map for the new board members so they can find the Village Hall for their first meeting?

  16. Bernard Punsely says:

@”Map”…..umm…..the new board members, after this recent election, just put Silver Lake “on the map”!

  17. Bernard Punsely says:

One might make a political observation here that there truly has been a “CLEAN SWEEP” here in our village this spring…..most REFRESHING, I might add!
