Wheatland Center’s Elizabeth Weidner 2014-2015 Letters About Literature semi-finalist

Elizabeth Weidner, an eighth-grade student at Wheatland Center School, has been named a semi-finalist in the 2014-2015 Letters About Literature competition.

Her letter advanced through two levels of judging at the national LAL office in Virginia, and has been forwarded to the state-level judges, who will announce Wisconsin’s first- and second-place winners and honorable mentions in April. Elizabeth will be honored at an award ceremony in Neenah, held in conjunction with the Fox Cities Book Festival this April.

Letters about Literature is a writing contest for young readers in grades 4-12, sponsored by the Library of Congress and Wisconsin Center for the Book. Students write a letter to an author of a fiction or nonfiction book, a short story, poem, essay or speech describing how the work changed the students’ view of the world or themselves. Entries are judged at both the state and national levels and prizes are awarded for the best letter at various grade levels.
