Elizabeth Marvitz in UW-Whitewater production of “The Tender Land”

Elizabeth Marvitz of Trevor, a freshman music major, was featured in the ensemble of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater production of “The Tender Land,” a coming-of-age opera based in the 1930s on a Midwestern farm.

“The Tender Land” follows Laurie as she is about to graduate from high school and unexpectedly falls in love. This classic opera by famous American composer Aaron Copeland showcases the exploration of one’s self.

“The UW-Whitewater Theatre Department puts on an opera every three years, which requires consultation with the music and dance departments,” said Jim Butchart, director and professor of theatre and dance. “It’s an invaluable experience for the students to perform in a single production with multiple artistic elements.”

The production ran Feb. 22, through Feb. 28.
