Benefit for 12-year-old injured in Wheatland crash is Sunday

A benefit to help in the recovery of Kayla Brown, 12, injured in a crash in Wheatland on Dec. 31 will be held on March 8,

The benefit will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Marino’s County Aire, 34816 Geneva Road,in New Munster.

On Dec. 31, Kayla  and her best friend Samantha Russell, 16,  were involved in a fatal car accident. On that day Kayla lost her best friend and gained a new guardian angel. Kayla is now in the ICU, in a critical yet stable condition and has a long road of  recovery ahead of her. She sustained a skull fracture, leading to swelling of the brain, which required a stint to be put in place.  She is also suffering from burns on her face, which may lead to cosmetic surgery later on and has already endured cosmetic surgery to reattach her ear.

Heidi Brown, mother of Kayla, is a Wheatland EMT, and Heather Applebee, mother of Samantha, is a Wheatland firefighter.

Proceeds from the benefit will help the family meet mounting medical bills and household bills.  Please support the “Kayla Brown Benefit” by making a donation. All donations big or small are greatly appreciated. Monetary donations are also appreciated.
