The Central High School Drama Club will be producing “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Will Averill’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s story is set in 1950s Hollywood on the sound stages of the Athenian Films Production Studio. Movie stars, amateur filmmakers, and the ghosts of silent screen movie actors all collide in the haunted backlot and adjacent woods. Merging Shakespearean verse, contemporary dialogue, and video clips this adaptation is a fresh and hilarious take on a comedy of mismatched couples under the spell of a love potion – set to the flashing lights of Hollywood.
Full performances take place Friday, March 20 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 22 at 2 p.m. Central High School is located at 24617 75th Street in Paddock Lake. Full performance general admission tickets are $8.
In addition, there will be a special children’s event, “Puck’s Midsummer Adventure” held on Saturday, March 21 at 5 p.m.. This abbreviated, kid-friendly version of the play is 45 minutes in length and will serve as a great introduction to Shakespeare for a younger theater audience, ages 5 to 10 years old. Attendees will also be provided an opportunity for a “meet and great” with cast members and light refreshments will be served. Tickets for this special event are $5 per person.
Tickets will be available to order in advance by going to www.westosha.k12.wi.us and clicking on the event under the Monthly News. Tickets will also be available at the door.
