Memorial for KFD Lt. Scott Schumacher of Trevor is Thursday

A memorial for Kenosha Fire Department Lt. Scott Schumacher of Trevor, will take place March 5 at Carthage College, 2001 Alford Park Drive in Kenosha.

Schumacher’s death earlier this week was from cancer due to carcinogen exposure during execution of emergency duties while on incidents with the KFD, said a statement issued by the KFD. During his 16 years of service to the KFD, Schumacher executed multiple rescues and received several commendations for lifesaving and heroism.

Schumacher will receive full Line of Duty Death honors from the KFD. A public safety procession will follow the service to KFD Station #7 where a private family ceremony will occur.

Schumacher, 41, is survived by his wife and three children.

Schumacher also was active as a leader in Lakeland Little League. The league issued the following statement on his death on its website:

The entire Lakeland family extends our condolences to the family of Scott Schumacher, who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer Wednesday. Scott was a huge supporter of baseball in our community, helping make Lakeland run smoothly as a coach, manager, and the president-elect of our board of directors. Scott was a man of service who gave his time generously and passed his expertise to countless young players. Though he managed some of our most advanced youngsters on district and travel teams, Scott particularly enjoyed working with players who were new to the game, teaching them with patience and compassion.  We will miss his tireless work ethic, his dedication, leadership and his love of the game.”
