Wheatland Center School students recognized with Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Eighth-grader Bobby Bullard won a Gold Key with his personal essay “A Picture is Worth a Thousand of Words”.

The following students will be honored at the regional awards ceremony in March 21 in the Bedford Concert Hall at UW-Parkside:

  • Alana Bell – Silver Key:Tiny Turtle and Honorable Mention:Gone in a Flash.
  • Bobby Bullard – Gold Key: A Picture is Worth a Thousand of Words.
  • April Hedberg – Honorable Mention: The Runaway Elves.
  • Riley Noonan – Silver Key: Christmas Concentration, Honorable Mention: Humpty Dumpty Remix & Take a Look Into My Home.
  • Michala Ohlrich – Silver Key: It’s You; The Rose; R.I.P.; Screams; So-Called.
  • Andrew Vinson – Silver Key: Line of Fire.
  • Siera Volbrecht – Silver Key: Dallas.

The Southeast Wisconsin Scholastic Writing competition was open to students in grades 7-12 from Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth counties. Students’ entries are judged blindly by at least three jurors, and tabulated to award three levels of recognition: the Gold Key, which is the highest award, followed by Silver Key and Honorable Mention awards. Entries receiving Gold Keys advanced to New York for national judging by professional writers, editors, publishers, and educators.
