Silver Lake’s annual 12th Night celebration has been postponned to Jan. 11, at 6 p.m., outside the Silver Lake Fire Department station.
The rescheduling was due to the severe cold forecast for tonight, said Trustee Sabrina Moran.
That means there is still time to bring your real Christmas tree or wreath to be part of the 12th Night burn. You can leave trees at the collection point outside the fire station near the railroad tracks.
On Sunday, cookies and hot cocoa will be provided inside the fire station by the Silver Lake Fire/Rescue Auxiliary.
Just wondering…what ever happened to the “Fire Chief” selection process? Do we have a Fire Chief in Silver Lake, or not?

“whatever happened to” in this town and see where we once were and where we are today and headed to.
It might be very interesting.
I suggest that the building be rented out as a campaign headquarters for the candidates running on the Silver Lake Rescue Squad “We Don’t Need Paramedics in Silver Lake” platform. It would be a convenient location for the “Good Ol Boys(& Gals!) to gather to plan their campaign strategy. The rent would help pay for the monthly mortgage/rental costs. On second thought, they could just use the ambulance building….they only pay $1 year lease to the village for that!
Anyone wonder what the heating costs are at our new “library” so far this winter? One would have to assume that the village is heating the vacant building. I’m guessing that old gas meter is spinning like a top!
Silver Lake is really screwed up. The present board has done nothing. Get rid of them and give the new people a chance.
Darren, how does the above posts correspond with the above article? I already don’t click on your SL political articles due to all of the fodder in the comments section and now it has been allowed to spill over into the community event posts?!! I find your reporting to be very well done on all topics but how about some comment board policies for the web site to save the silent majority of us who do read your reports regularly. We want the news not the editorials of people sitting at home with a political agenda. Lets keep the west of the I classy.

@Jeff…..Ok ….I’ll bite….how does your “editorializing” the comments section of WOTI posts “correspond with the above article”(your words, not mine!) If you want the news, read the posts. Anybody forcing you to scroll down to the comments section? Your “holier than thou, silent majority” agenda is pompous at best. If reading posts that are to your disliking(like you are reading this one!)bothers you, QUIT READING THEM! Do you really believe that your comments help keep “west of the I classy”?????
Reply to Jeff: Your “concern” for what is happening here in Silver Lake is suspect at best. We are STILL waiting for Twin Lakes to send us $50 grand for the library purchase. Is that enough “political fodder” for you?
I’m sure the question will come up at their next meeting. Stay tuned.
BTW Jeff, sometimes we have to take whatever story is at the top of the page to keep our SL dialog going. West of the I doesn’t yet offer a letter to the editor option, not that it should though. This almost instant comments portion is enough for me although i would surely be writing op-ed’s if it was offered.

Dissolvers will obviously do whatever it takes to put themselves in the spotlight. Here we have a 12th night posting for its tradition in the village to complete the Christmas season and they find a way to get their foot in and turn it into something political. Then a resident from surrounding municipality chimes in with a valid point, they demean him! Wow! Bullies! No wonder we’re the laughing stock around here. It’s not the ‘good ol’ boys’ it’s the dissolvers that make us look like a joke.

The same fire department that the village board steadfastly REFUSES to appoint Allie Draeger as Fire Chief, much less even RECOGNIZE her as Fire Chief. That’s the REAL STORY. Your comments are just as political as the rest of ours are accused of being. Read your comments again…… your monniker “NO CLASS'” is most appropriate. Reading the comments section, it appears to me that things are “heating up” in Silver Lake, the “good ol boys(& gals) are stating to do a “slow burn”…..it’s spread all the way into Twin Lakes……and they haven’t even started the Christmas trees on fire yet!!!!
As a fellow twin lakes resident I am proud and happy to have a “good ol’ boys’ president and board leading our thriving village 🙂 don’t believe president skinner is a good ol boy… I got one of his good ol’ boy campaign hats to prove it! Maybe its not the good ol boys that are the problem! Get r done!
@TL onlooker……I must concur that I think Mr. Skinner does an outstanding job as your village president, and you DO have a thriving village. Unfortunately, that is NOT the situation in Silver Lake. And ANYONE that tries to “stand up” to the “good ol boys(&gals)” will get bullied. I’m guessing Twin Lakes has an appointed Fire Chief, full time police chief, up to date water system, stable budget with adequate reserves, full time adminstrator, stable working relationship between village president, board members, adminstrator and department heads……want me to keep going on? We have virtually NONE of that here in Silver Lake……not only can we not “git r dun”…we can’t even ” git r started”! Maybe your good ol boys(& gals) could sit down with our “good ol boys(& gals)” and exchange hats! In fact, we’d be willing to exchange our village president for your village president, even exchange.

Maybe the library building could be sold to Antioch Rescue for their use. I am certain that they can come up with a plan. Oh, that’s right, they have disappeared into the night. Good plan Jeff & Mr. Done.
@Steve Hopkins…..glad to see you are “thinking outside the box”. I think we could sell the building to Antioch Rescue for $1, sort of like we did for SLRS.
You seem quite content that the plan to provide PARAMEDIC LEVEL SERVICE in our village “disappeared into the night”(your words, not mine!). Remember, we just had a “Save Silver Lake Rescue Squad” sponsored referendum to REJECT contracting with Salem Fire/Rescue for ANY SERVICES!!! How’d that work out for ya Steve? Voters SOUNDLY “REJECTED the REJECTION”, majority also voted to DISSOLVE…..this election is gonna be a doozie!!!!!!

That got me thinking…”Where’ Al”????? We have not heard from him for awhile. Given all the is going on in our village, and the events of the last 6 months, I miss his insight!!! Where’ Al????
