Salem will see a contested election for town chairman in the April election.
Incumbent Diann Tesar and current Supervisor Mike Culat both filed papers to run for chairman by the deadline this evening.
If Culat were to lose the chairman race, he would remain on the Town Board as he would still have a year left in his current supervisor term.
The chairman post has a two-year term.
The other Salem positions will have no contests on the ballot, with only the incumbents filing candidacy papers. Those candidates and positions are:
- Town supervisor (two-year term) — Dan Campion and Ted Kmiec.
- Municipal judge (four-year term) — Mike Langel.
