Identity of teen who died in Wheatland crash released

The identity of a 16 year old who died in a crash in Wheatland on Wednesday has been released by the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.

Samantha J. Russell of Wheatland died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, a statement from the Sheriff’s Department said.

A 12-year-old family friend that was a passenger in the pick-up truck Russell was driving remains at Froedtert Hospital with serious injuries, the statement said.

According to Sheriff’s Department information: The crash occurred at about 1:30 p.m., Wednesday. Russell’s pick-up truck was traveling northbound on 392nd Avenue and entered the westbound lanes of Highway 50. A van that was westbound on Highway 50 struck the pick-up truck at the intersection of Highway 50 and 392nd Avenue. The impact caused the pick-up truck to roll over, pinning the driver of the pick-up truck. The driver of the van, a 34-year-old woman from Beach Park, IL. was transported to Burlington Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

There have been no charges or traffic citations filed in this case, the sheriff’s department statement from Thursday said.
