The Academic Decathlon Teams at Central High School and Wilmot Union High School were among 50 teams that advanced to regional competition, which will be held on Jan. 9 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Wisconsin Academic Decathlon is part of a national scholastic competition for students in both public and private schools. During the local competition, students were tested in seven academic areas: art, science, economics, language and literature, mathematics, music, and social sciences. At regional competition in January, team members will once again be tested in these academic areas. In addition, students will write an essay, present an impromptu and prepared speech and participate in a personal interview.
Central team members are: Kelly Corkins, Jamie Voigt, A.J. Reeves, Eddie Korando, Christian Lamey, Alexander Hamilton and Jennifer Sparks. The team is coached by Maggie Meeks-Bosanko.
Wilmot team members are: Carlie Banchi, Carl Simmons, Johny Weber, Joey Burba, Angela Schumacher, Alyssa Gregory, Althea Disse, Mason Nindl, and Claudia Baker. Alternates include junior Ashley Dabbs and sophomores Alexa Lewis and Kyle Kostrova.
Wilmot’s team earned a a trip to Nationals last year.
