You may have noticed a large lighted wreath hanging on the Twin Lakes Fire Department and Rescue Squad station in downtown Twin Lakes.

There is more meaning to that wreath than a seasonal decoration.

Fire Chief Stan Clause Jr. explained that the department will be participating in the Keep the Wreath Green fire safety awareness program this season. For December, the department will display the wreath with all green bulbs unless there is a structure fire anywhere in Kenosha County. For each structure fire, one green bulb will be replaced by a red one.

Clause said he was inspired by the Black River Falls Fire Department’s display of a similar wreath to bring it back home to Twin Lakes.

As of Monday, the wreath was still all green.
