Winter weather advisory issued

snow-sxc-webThe National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for our area.

The advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday. Snow accumulation should begin this afternoon as rain turns to snow, with the local forecast calling for up to 3 inches of snow by tomorrow morning.

Temperatures will be dropping and roads may become snow covered and slippery, the advisory states. Blowing snow may be most hazardous on rural north-south roadways.

There is a 40 percent chance of snow Tuesday, but no accumulation expected. Lesser chances of snow persist in the forecast through Friday.

UPDATE 11:27 a.m. — Snow coming down in earnest a couple of hours early at least!
