Silver Lake passes tax levy with 1 percent decrease

silver-lake-VHThe Silver Lake Village Board on Wednesday passed a tax levy with a 1 percent decrease from 2014.

The 2015 tax levy will be $1,036,237. The 2014 tax levy was $1,050,151.

The budget for 2015 and the 2015 tax levy passed with a 5 yes, 1 no vote with Trustee Pat Dunn voting against and Trustee Michael Decker absent.

The effect on your taxes depends on what, if anything, has happened to your home’s assessment. If your assessment has not changed, your village taxes should go down slightly.

The village is planning to have a village wide reassessment done in 2015.

Is this decrease related to the push to have Trash collection separated from property tax/values?! Anyone? I’m wondering if that issue was resolved within this?!
    Thanks!

    1. Garbage collection is not separated from the general tax bill for this year.

Silver Lake went down, Salem went up. Who would have thought…

@”Concerned”…..which part of “the village is planning to have a village wide reassessment done in 2015” did you NOT understand. Not only did our 2015 budget include monies to PAY for the reassessments…..we have been living on “borrowed time”. When our NEW assessments are factored in, our taxes will SKY ROCKET! We went from a FULL TIME Police Chief to a PART TIME Police Chief, which significantly impacted(lowered)our budget. Did we/do we need a FULL TIME Police Chief????? If we did/do, we should pay for it. To cut that position and then imply our taxes levy went down and Salem’s went up is LUDICROUS!!!! The clock it ticking…………

“if your assessment has not changed, your village taxes should go down slightly”. OK I understand that. Our village has not be reassessed since 2008? Does anyone really believe the assessed value of your home is going to go DOWN??????? Check out any of our surrounding communities and see if their assessed values went down in the last 7 years. Get ready to OPEN YOUR WALLETS, folks!
