Silver Lake FD equipment truck to get new tires

silver-lake-fd-doorThe last piece of major Silver Lake Fire Department in need of new tires will now get them.

The Village Board Wednesday voted to replace the tires for the fire department equipment truck by accepting a bid for the work for $2,804.08.

The impetuous for the replacement — which had been deferred as too expensive to consider this year — appeared to come from an offer to transfer half of the cost from the Police Department budget. That offer was made by new police Chief Andrew Trudeau.

At the meeting, Trudeau said he recently identified some funds he felt would not be spent by the PD this year and offered it to help with the tire replacement.

Replacement of tires on the fire department’s two engines, tender truck (tanker) and equipment truck became an issue in May after it was pointed out that the tires had not been replaced since the vehicles were purchased after the 1997 fire that destroyed the firehouse and most of the equipment inside. Acting fire chief in May, Roger Pattie, said the tires should have been replaced at least once since then.

Tires for one engine and the tender truck were replaced in June. Tires were replaced on the other engine later in June with that engine going back in service in  early July.

  1. Mike Brown says:

The police department has a budget of half million dollars and all they can spare is $2800.00 ??

  2. Bernard Punsley says:

I applaud Chief Trudeau in his efforts to support the fire department’s immediate needs. I think we need MORE of this type of cooperation between ALL of our village departments. It has been severely lacking over the years. This is a step in the right direction by our Police Chief.

  3. Good Things are coming says:

Mr. Brown, where did you get your numbers from? Why is it so hard for some to tell the truth? The police budget is nowhere near $500,000 and in fact according to a recent press release from the village, Chief Trudeau has already slashed $52,000 from the PD budget! -That is just the tip of the iceberg….

With the new board members in office, now able to concentrate on the village, as opposed to the BS started by a few, with the help of the PD, Rescue and FD working together, the Village of Silver Lake is now on the path of progress and growth.

Look for several more press releases in the near future! I can’t wait for the changes just around the corner.

Silver Lake has always been a great place to live, and it’s about to get a whole lot better!

  4. Bernard Punsley says:

@Good Things are coming: What you really meant to say was “with the new Rescue Squad board members in office”…..your assessment that PD, Rescue, and FD are going to “work together” putting us on the path of progress and growth” sounds like something right out of Paul Ryan’s playbook! Apparently, you must not read the postings on this website, many of which are written by members of the PD, Rescue, and FD. Yah feelin’ the love there? Changes are right around the corner….you won’t have to wait long…November 4th….DISSOLVE NOW! You are 100% in your assessment that “Silver Lake has always been a great place to live….and it’s about to get a whole lot better”!!!

  5. Mike Brown says:

@Good Things are coming If my numbers for the police budget are off, please tell me exactly what those numbers are along with all the other departments budgets. My understanding is that Silverlake rescue is a private company,so please explain how Silverlake Fire Dept. and Rescue are working together?
Today is Oct 19th 2014 and I still have not heard of a 5,10,15 or 20 year plan from our Village Board. So can you also share the progress and growth in detail for me? Thanks Mike
