UPDATE: Body of man missing on Silver Lake found

The body of John Spoor, 66, of McHenry, Ill. was found today in Silver Lake.

From a statement released by Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Bill Beth:

This morning the efforts to locate Mr. Spoor in the waters of Silver Lake resumed at about 0745 hours. Mr. Spoor was found floating in about 7 feet of water by the Town of Salem water recovery team at about 0824 hours. Kenosha County Sheriff’s Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances of Mr. Spoor’s death, but an initial overview shows no signs of foul play. An autopsy will be scheduled by the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Spoor was reported missing by family on Tuesday. He had gone to Silver Lake to fish.  His unoccupied boat was found on Silver Lake, along with his vehicle in the village. Fire and law enforcement personnel from numerous local and area departments have been searching the lake and shoreline for Spoor since then.

Thanks to all of the various organizations and departments(police/fire/rescue/DNR/dive team/etc) for their valiant efforts in recovering the body of Mr. Spoor and providing some measure of closure to his family. It was heartening to see all of the departments working together with one common goal. THANK YOU.
