Salem School Cross Country Team to run in Nate Walter 2nd Annual 5K Memorial to show support for teacher

salem-signThe Salem School Cross Country Team will be participating in the Nate Walter 2nd Annual 5K Memorial Fun Run/Walk on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Wilmot Union High School.

While the proceeds from the event will help to create a scholarship in Nathan’s honor for students pursuing a career in technology, the Salem student-athletes also want to use this event as an opportunity to show that they care about Salem seventh grade teacher Michelle Walter and the community. Michelle Walter is Nate Walter’s mother. Nate died from injuries sustained in a traffic crash in June 2013.

Salem athletic director Craig Velleux indicated the students were talking about how the teachers are always helping out the students and that this would be an excellent opportunity for them to show that they care about their teachers too. The students are excited to run as a team and to be able to run with their teachers for a good cause.

“It truly is indicative of the supportive atmosphere we strive for here at Salem School,” Velleux said.
