Thunderstorms are prominent, if not quite certain, in the local National Weather Service forecast for today and continuing into Saturday.
There’s a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms today and a 60 percent chance tonight and Saturday. The high temperature forecast for today and Saturday is 80.
Sunday looks to be a little warmer — high 82 — and sunny. Then the thunderstorms return, starting with a slight chance Sunday and then likely by Monday (60 percent chance).
A hydrologic outlook from the NWS warns that heavy rain could cause streams to rise, but it also points out that the heaviest rain is not expected here. The Fox River as measured at the New Munster gauge is at 6.58 feet as of 6 a.m. Friday, well below flood stage of 10 feet.
High temperatures are expected to continue to be around 80 for the first week of school.
