Orozco charged with felony in fatal crash

The man who was driving a car involved in a crash in which his passenger died on Sunday morning in Bristol has been charged with a felony.

Christopher J. Orozco, 29, of Paddock Lake, has been charged with homicide by intoxicated use of vehicle in Kenosha County Circuit Court.

Orozco is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 1.

Brian Smith, 27, of Salem died in the crash.

Orozco also has received the following traffic citations according to Circuit Court records: Operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated 1st offense, driving too fast for conditions, operating left of center line.

Acccording to the Sheriff’s Department, the vehicle driven by Orozco was traveling southbound on Highway 45 when the driver lost control of the vehicle in a curve. The vehicle slid sideways into the west ditch and struck a culvert, which caused the vehicle to roll multiple times. The vehicle then struck a fire hydrant and utility pole, snapping the utility pole off.
