  1. Thank the good Lord says:

Thank goodness this was not an actual fire! The responder from SLFD showed up in their personal vehicle because our equipment is not safe. Thank you to that responder! Had this been an actual emergency I know that our true “firefighters” ,who went through the training and the classes with no regard to personal feelings or personality grudges, would have gotten to that fire any way they could have! One of the people who says they are a firefighter stated on facebook that they did not show up for the call out on the barn….and they had their reasons….not trained? too many adult beverages? a grudge against the fire chief….NO EXCUSES!!!! Our village is in deep trouble….TIME TO WAKE UP RESIDENTS!!!

OK folks…….our grade school reports a fire…..we have to rely on Randall and Wheatland Fire departments to provide fire protection for us. Consider this.. BOTH of those departments rely on Silver Lake Rescue Squad to provide rescue service to their communities. Left out of the equation, is the professional fire and paramedic services that Salem Fire and Rescue could be providing to our village. They have been “blackballed” by our village board. I never thought I would see the day that our children’s safety and welfare would be compromised in the name of politics. Right across the street from a board members’ house. A sad day in the annals of Silver Lake history. Time to dissolve now and become part of Salem. Wake up folks.

  3. Bernard Punsley says:

I was proud to see our Silver Lake Firefighters MARCHING in our Memorial Day parade in a show of unity. While all the surrounding fire departments showed up with their various fire trucks, village board REFUSES to issue emergency funding to put tires on our “out of service” fire trucks! What a sad state of affairs. STAND TALL SLFD…..not everyone in this village shares the disdain that our elected officials have for you. Stay strong, stay together….there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
