Charlene Brandes new Westosha School Board president

The Westosha (Central High) School District Board has a new president.

Charlene Brandes will serve as the new president. She succeeds Mary Ellen Pearsall, president since 2008, who remains on the board.

Other board members and their positions after the May 6 reorganization are: Steve Richter, vice president;  Cheryl Baysinger, clerk; Mary Anderson, treasurer; Dustin Beth, member; Pearsall, member; Roger Runkel, member.

We asked Pearsall what prompted her stepping down from the president’s position. Here was her reply:

I wanted to step down. I had told the board last month that I could no longer serve as president. My husband is retiring in June and we plan to do some traveling. I did not want our traveling to interfere with the obligations of Board President or for us not to travel because I had obligations as Board President. As you know the President has more meetings and responsibilities. I have enjoyed serving as President since spring of 2008. Our School Board is dedicated and focused on its commitment to our children, teachers and community. I am confident that this will continue under the new leadership with Charlene Brandes as our President.
