Wilmot UMC Celebrates New Lift

This weekend the Wilmot United Methodist Church is celebrating making their church an easier place to be to lift up your heart and give thanks. It’s thanks to their new lift.

It fulfills the dream of many members of the congregation for the last 20 years or so to increase the accessibility of the sanctuary and church services. The church, built in 1875, has steep steps when you enter the front or the back.

Part of the celebration was the Fox River Barbeque, which featured pulled pork sandwiches and sides. Last year’s dinner money went towards the lift. This year’s dinner celebrates its completion. Sunday morning it was dedicated.

A small addition was built on the back of the church to allow for the lift. Some of the other changes included some modification to a bathroom, and removing a pew to make room for wheelchairs. There are also three marked handicapped spots in the parking lot.

The cost for everything was about $70,000. The fundraising has been going on for several years. They’ve had a display out in front of the church for the last year or so charting their progress.
