Randall School receives national SupportMusic Merit Award

music notes-sxc-Robert Proksa_optRandall School has received the SupportMusic Merit Award from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.

Randall joins 96 schools (three in Wisconsin and of those Randall is the only k-8) across the country to receive the prestigious award this year. The SupportMusic Merit Award is awarded to individual schools that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the SupportMusic Merit Award, Katie Hager, Randall’s Middle School Band Director, answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Institute for Educational Research and Public Service of Lawrence, Kansas, an affiliate of the University of Kansas.

Said Hager:

At Randall Consolidated School we are blessed to have three full-time music educators in a 4K-8 district. With administrative and community support, we are able to offer our students a wide range of musical performing groups and opportunities. The impact of receiving this award from NAMM reinforces to us and our community that we’re musically doing what’s best for our kids.” ~

Numerous studies have demonstrated that learning to play music can boost other academic and social skills, such as math and learning to cooperate in a group.

The NAMM- funded Cost of Music Education study found that a comprehensive K–12 music education program cost an average of $187 per student per year in the sample district. Randall Consolidated School currently has 670 students enrolled from 4K-8 Grades.
