MargaretAnn’s Place, which provided support, education and awareness for children and their families who are grieving a death of a significant person in their lives, ceased providing those services this week.
From an announcement released this week:
MargaretAnn’s Place, Wisconsin’s Center of Hope for Grieving Children, will end services and dissolve as an agency. Services will end as of March 25 close at the end of its fiscal year in June 2014. It is with heavy hearts, after much discernment, that the Governance Board has come to this decision due to a long-ranging lack of sustainable funding. MargaretAnn’s Place staff, volunteers, supporters and board have dedicated themselves over the last 15 years to serving our mission and helping to heal the hearts of as many grieving children as possible. In Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee and Waukesha counties, MargaretAnn’s Place has provided free community based peer support and education groups, school grief programs, and Camp Erin (an overnight bereavement camp in partnership with The Moyer Foundation) to children, teens, and their families who are grieving the death of someone close to them. According to The Moyer Foundation, a new partner organization will be selected to resume Camp Erin to serve families in the Milwaukee area. For more information, contact info@moyerfoundation.org. MargaretAnn’s Place (MAP) is currently working through conversations with similar missioned agencies in the area to explore their expansion into the markets MAP has served since our founding by Debra Smith-Andersen in 1998. For more information on this transition, please visit www.margaretannsplace.org or our Facebook page for updates. Our upcoming fundraiser gala in Kenosha, scheduled for March 29th cancelled. The Board would like to extend our most sincere thank you to all who have supported MargaretAnn’s Place through the years – you allowed our agency to make a positive impact in thousands of children’s lives over the years and truly succeed in our mission. , 2014, and the organization will fully
