Lakewood School staff played students in a basketball game Friday morning as a reward for the school’s Positive Behavior Intervention Supports program.

PBIS is an incentive based program for middle school students. The game was played for all it was worth right up to the final seconds. What the teachers lacked in youth, speed and stamina, they made up for in height and cunning. The teachers jumped out to an early lead, but the students kept pecking away at it, just falling short at the end, by one point, 25-24. It was played almost non-stop. There were almost no fouls, and no timeouts. No coddling, no deference to age or youth. Several students made some shots that would have been three-pointers, if they were counting three-pointers.
