UPDATE: Gas leak repairs took a long time

A gas leak caused by a car that struck a gas line along Highway F near Highway W in Salem Wednesday afternoon took an extensive amount of time to repair.

At about 4:15 p.m., deputies and Town of Salem Fire/Rescue units responded to the area for a report of a single vehicle accident that struck a gas line and caused a leak. A Twin Lakes man, 18, reported that he had been NB on Highway W in his 1995 Chevy truck and made a left turn on Highway F before losing control on an icy road. The man was cited for too fast for conditions. WE Energies responded and turned off the gas. Squads blocked off the roadways leading to the area for approx three hours. There was no need for evacuations, and there has not been any report of any outages. As of 10 p.m., Wednesday, WE Energies was still at the scene working on the damage.
