Warm-up begins; temp above 0

The warm-up is on!

At the 2:53 p.m. reading, the temperature at Kenosha Regional Airport was 1, getting above 0 for the first time in days. The wind chill warning that had been in effect since Sunday also was allowed to expire by the National Weather Service at noon, as scheduled.

Not that it is going to be exactly balmy Wednesday, but it will be warmer — and definitely warmer than the guidelines local schools use for calling a closure (-20 air temp or -35 wind chill). The high should be about 9 with wind chills in the range of -5 to -15, says the NWS forecast.

By Saturday, the high could be 37. That’s balmy!

UPDATE 3:42 p.m. — The NWS has issued a wind chill advisory in effect until noon on Wednesday.
