Cold now, cold later

A depth of cold not seen here in almost 20 years has arrived as expected.

At 7:53 a.m., the temperature at Kenosha Regional Airport was -14 with winds of 15 mph (with 30 mph gusts) producing wind chill of -37.

A wind chill warning is still in effect, due to expire at noon Tuesday.

Effects of this extreme cold, such as frostbite, can come on quickly, National Weather Service representatives have been stressing.

Not to get anyone’s hopes up, but after this cold period, the longer term forecast is looking up. The local NWS forecast calls for high temperatures in the 30s for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
