Members of Town of Salem Fire/Rescue trained Salem’s Safety Patrol Members in Adult and Child Hands Only CPR and AEDlast week. The students in grades 6 – 8 are selected to be members of the safety patrol. These students are leaders on and off of the school buses. Their presence helps to keep students safe. Eileen Bruton, Principal 5 – 8, approached Jason Witte, Firefighter/Paramedic for the Town of Salem Fire/Rescue about training the students in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The two hour class included hands only CPR for adults and children, the use of the AED and training for adult and child choking. The twenty-five students practiced on training dummies throughout the class. A more comprehensive class, which would allow students to be certified, is being planned for early 2014.

Good to know that there is such a program to train those kids. They can then become models of being rescuers in their respective schools. This will encourage other students to learn CPR.

Salem Fire and Rescue are on top of the food chain. No one gives better service to its citizens. Silver Lake should take lesson from them.
