At 2:54 p.m., Town of Salem Fire/Rescue units and sheriff’s deputies are responding to Salem School for a report of smoke in the building.
Per dispatch, a custodian at the school is reporting smoke inside and the smell of something burning near the south end of the school.
UPDATE 2:58 p.m. — Bristol Fire and Rescue units also responding.
UPDATE 3:03 p.m. — Fire personnel staging in school’s west parking lot. Panels being checked for indicators. Units still responding told to slow their response, but continue to the scene.
UPDATE 3:09 p.m. — Salem fire command reports that source of the problem was a defective water cooler in the building. Cooler being worked on. Fire units beginning to return to quarters.
