Benjamin Ihlen among best in Great Lakes Region engineering competitions

Benjamin Ihlen, from Trevor, was part of a team of Milwaukee School of Engineering students who won the Regional Design/Build Championship at the Associated Schools of Construction Region 3 Conference and Student Competitions. Ihlen is majoring in Architectural Engineering and Structural Engineering at MSOE.

Four teams of MSOE architectural engineering and construction management students competed in three national competitions: preconstruction, electrical and healthcare; and one regional competition: design/build. For each competition the teams received a request for proposal (RFP) for a real project at 7 a.m. and had 16 hours to turn in their proposal at 11 p.m. The following morning they presented their solution to a panel of judges, which included individuals who were involved in the actual project.

Design/Build Team The Design/Build Team won the regional title, defeating teams such as Ferris State, University of Cincinnati and Illinois State University. A total of seven teams participated in the competition, sponsored by McCarthy Construction. Team members were: Donnie Bogle, Jordan Borst, Nick Gottlieb, Ben Ihlen, Tyler Mrowiec, Zane Witt. Coaches were Dr. Blake Wentz and Robert Lemke.
