Seminars offered for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s

Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, Inc. has released the following statement regarding a complimentary seminar for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s or other associated memory conditions:

Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, Inc. is offering a complimentary seminar on two programs, on two different days, for caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s or other associated memory conditions. Professionals and others who are interested in learning about Daybreak & LEEPS or Language Enriched Exercise Plus Socialization, are also welcome. The session is being conducted by Linda Bocanegra Johnson, Daybreak Supervisor & LEEPS Coordinator. Both programs offer physical and cognitive stimulation for the participants. The positive aspects of these programs can improve memory loss, enhance overall vitality of the participants, and reduce stress in the household. If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss and you’re not sure how to address it, you’re encouraged to attend this seminar. It is intended to give possible avenues to programs that can help the situation of a caregiver and/or someone with a memory disorder. Daybreak offers participants who are in early to middle stages of Alzheimer’s Disease or related memory disorder enjoyable recreation, leisure activities involving socialization, exercise, music, games, field trips, nature walks (weather permitting), and crafts. Activities are planned with the individual’s needs and group interests in mind. This program also provides the Caregiver “time-away”/respite from caregiving responsibilities. LEEPS is a new evidence based program being offered in Kenosha County for people with Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementias. This in home program is free to those who qualify. A trained volunteer will exercise with the participant and accompany them on outings in the community for volunteer activities and social enjoyment. The LEEPS program is tailored to meet the specific needs of each person. The seminars will take place at; Northside Public Library (Activities room) located at 500 27th Ave, Kenosha, WI 53140 on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 5:00pm – 6:00pm, and at the Southwest Public Library (Activities Room) located at 7979 38th Ave, Kenosha, WI 53142 on Friday, October 25, 2013, from 4:30pm – 5:30pm.
