Wheatland Center boys softball team wins 2013 championship

The Wheatland Boys A-Team softball won the Westosha Conference Championship with a 21-12 victory over Riverview on Sept. 30.

The Warhawks advanced to the championship game with a hard fought 3-1 victory over Bristol. The score was tied 1-1 in the top of the 5th when Wheatland’s Gunner┬áPeterson connected for a two-run home run that proved to be the difference. Austin Glidden was instrumental on the defensive front with spectacular pitching. In the championship game, Wheatland exploded to a 16-6 lead after three innings and held on for the win. The Warhawks were led with a solid defensive effort centered around Adam Simmons, Tanner Peterson, and Austin Glidden. Leading the offensive attack was Peterson who had five hits, including hitting for the cycle, Jake Keisler with four hits including a home run, and three hits a piece by Gage Mickelson, Tanner Peterson and Bryce Biedrzycki.

Members of the 2013 championship team included: Austin Glidden, Adam Simmons, Gage Mickelson, Kyle Lois, Chase Warren, Tanner Peterson, Gunner Peterson, Kyle Miller, Cole Nichols, Brandon Horton, Jake Keisler, Bryce Biedrzycki, Anthony Poco, Logan Pye, and Gavin Goldstein.
