Paddock Lake may donate $1,000 toward the costs of this year’s annual July 3 fireworks display that is paid for chiefly by the Westosha Kiwanis Club.

In making the proposal at Tuesday’s Village Board committee of the whole, village President Terry Burns said many residents have the impression that the village does fund the fireworks. However, that is not the case; the fireworks are finded by Kiwanis.

But Burns said he felt the village should make a donation this year. He proposed paying the $1,000 from a holiday celebrations fund that has been carrying over a balance of about $5,700. About $1,500 is budgeted for the fund each year.

Other Village Board members seemed in favor of Burns proposal.

“We’ve donated to Kiwanis before,” said Trustee Barbara Brenner. “I think residents really enjoy those fireworks.”

No action is taken at committee of the whole meetings, but the matter may be up for action at the regular monthly meeting Aug. 21.
