Lightning 18u Black win first 2 pool games at ASA “A” National Championships

lightning-softball-logoThe Wisconsin Lightning 18u Black softball team won their first 2 pool games at the ASA “A” National Championships at Moyer Softball Complex in Salem, VA.

On Monday, the Lightning beat the Louisville Stunners Black 3-1 behind the 3 hit pitching of Kristen Wood (Wilmot). Wood struck out 11 and walked 1 in picking up the victory.

At the plate, Makenzie Walker (Kenosha Bradford) had 2 hits (double, single) with an RBI and a run scored. Sarah Fonk (Westosha Central) also had 2 hits with a run scored and Kelsey Saucerman (Wilmot ) had a big sacrifice fly RBI.

In Tuesday’s 2nd pool game the Lightning beat the Clearwater Lady Bombers, Clearwater FL by a score of 2-0 there by winning their pool and earning a 1 seed heading into bracket play.

On the mound Sarah Fonk earned the 3 hit shutout victory by striking out 8 and walking only 2.

At the plate, Fonk also had 2 hits (double, single) an RBI and a run scored. Sara Terrian (Waterford) also plated a run with an RBI single. Britt Blazich (Westosha Central) also had 2 hits with a run scored.

The Lighting now continues on to bracket on Wednesday at 2 pm EST to face a to yet to be determined opponent.
