Wilmot students among those at national shooting competition in Illinois

The Scholastic Pistol Program held its first National High School Pistol Championship at the World Recreation and Shooting Complex July 15 through July 20 in Sparta, IL.

Around 200 young shooters attended the championship from around the nation. Of those young shooters, five high school pistol teams from Wisconsin made the long journey to Sparta to compete in this first ever event. Wisconsin was represented by Burlington Demons Pistol Shooting Team, Lake Country Action Shooters, Ozaukee County Pistol Team, Union Grove Pistol Team, and Wilmot Pistol Team.

With Wisconsin taking home 4 out of the possible 6 trophies, Wisconsin State Advisor Jeremy Krusemark stated “I am very pleased and proud of our young Wisconsin athletes. They have worked very hard and this hard work is proven through the match results.”

Angela Schumacher from Wilmot came in 4th place which secured the top four nationwide Top Shot positions for this division all hailing from Wisconsin. Tara Steffen from Wilmot Pistol Team came in 2nd Place overall for the Female Junior Rimfire Division Top Shot.
