kcsd-doorFormer Kenosha County Sheriff Larry Zarletti died this morning of a heart attack, Sheriff David Beth announced.

Zarletti was 60.

“Larry was a partner of mine 30 years ago on third shift and we enjoyed many a laugh together,” Sheriff Beth said. “… He was a great person and will be missed by many in Kenosha County and our department.”

Zarletti was at the Sheriff’s Department for 30 years, and served three terms as sheriff. He was defeated in 2002 and 2006 by Beth. He retired from the department in 2006.

Very sorry for the loss to family and community. He was a good friend of my brother Billy and played in a band with him before he ran for sheriff. He was a good counselor to him and our family. Very proud to have had him as the highest law enforcement officer in the county. I worked for the KPD for a few years and have some idea of what he had to deal with. Excellent cop and example to Kenosha county.
