Twin Lakes Village Board Approves Road Resurfacing Projects

The Twin Lakes Village Board approved several road-resurfacing projects that should begin before the end of the summer.

The base bid includes Lucille, Haegle, Lake, Maple, Elm, Manor, Spruce, Park, Pearl and Wilmot Roads for $380,886.

They also approved the resurfacing or Pheasant Avenue from Park to Lake Shore Drive. The board will pay for $38,730 to repave the road.

Also included in the bid by Payne & Dolan, Inc. was the Cemetery for $17,945.

The total bids came in slightly higher than originally budgeted, but according to Jennifer Pollitt, Village Administrator, spending the additional $9000 maximizes the money already borrowed and will save on material costs.

“We don’t want to pay them to do another bid process next year,” she said. “We borrowed over $500,00 for this and we are keeping $65,000 for street surfacing next year. We have three years to use the borrowed money.”

Added to the motion for $437,561 is a 5% contingency figure in case there are unexpected issues with the project.

Advertisements for bids were placed in the newspaper and sent to 8 paving contractors with 3 contractors taking plan sets for bidding, the only bid received was from Payne & Dolan, Inc.

Village Consulting Engineers, Baxter & Woodman, recommended Payne & Dolan based on their familiarity and past working relationship with the company.
