The following statement comes from the Salem Public Safety Department:

The Department of Natural Resources and the Town of Salem Public Safety Office has teamed up and placed a “life jacket kiosk” at the recently renovated DNR boat launch on Camp Lake off 277th Avenue. The idea behind the kiosk was developed by the DNR as a way to keep the public safe in situations where they arrive to the lake and realize they are short of life jackets. There are 34 various sized jackets contained within the kiosk to fit nearly every sized infant up to the large adult. The jackets may be borrowed for the day and then returned and hung to dry for the next person to borrow. All jackets are marked as “DNR Loaner Jacket” on the back to discourage theft. The Wisconsin DNR and the Salem Lakes Patrol is hoping the general public takes advantage of the kiosk and its equipment to reduce the number of violations concerning the lack of life jackets and throwable cushions as required by law.”
