Girls Scouts convince Silver Lake Village Board crosswalk needed at school

Two Girls Scouts turned the Silver Lake Village Board into a model of legislative efficiency Wednesday night.

Courtney Baker and Genevieve Mojonnier made a short presentation before the board (full video above) about why they feel there should be a crosswalk on School Street at Evergreen for access to and from Riverview School. The traffic at that spot is hectic, they said, with drop offs and pickups. That is intensified by the fact that Riverview School is located in a neighborhood where many children walk to school — more so than other Western Kenosha County schools.

The case must have been compelling because the Village Board agreed to go ahead with the crosswalk, pending the police chief approving it and developing a cost estimate.

Courtney and Genevieve even offered to help pay for the cost with a bake sale or car wash
