UPDATE: Water on parts of Highway 50; detour signs going up

side-by-side-comparison-4-19-2013At 8:56 a.m., I just got back from taking a look at Highway 50 and found there is some water up on the edges of Highway 50 near Highway W-north in Wheatland. Traffic was, however, able to move through unimpeded.

The water from flooding in the median was into a left-turn lane in the westbound lanes. Water from direct river overflow was on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes in approximately the same spot.

Driving farther west I saw a single county Highway Department worker setting up detour signage.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Thursday that they planned to close Highway 50 from the Highway 75 intersection in Paddock Lake to the Highway 83-north intersection in Wheatland. The closure is due to concerns about rising Fox River flood waters over running the highway.

UPDATE 9:15 a.m. — Sheriff’s deputy reports to dispatch that state is ready to begin closure and he has been asked to stand-by.
