Highway 75 between Highway JB and 18th Street in Brighton has been re-opened, the county announced today.

That stretch of highway had been closed since Friday afternoon due to concerns about the Vern Wolfe Lake Dam failing and washing out the road, as close as 50 feet at one point. Besides large amounts of rain that caused the lake to overflow the dam, a hole was also detected in the structure.

Department of Natural Resources staff worked early this week to draw down the level of the lake to help relief pressure on the dam.

The announcement came in a press release on a local state of emergency being declared for Kenosha County.
