The rain we received yesterday was enough to put the Fox River at the New Munster gauge well ahead of the the National Weather Service forecast for flooding. The river was over 11 feet by early this morning, instead of peaking there sometime tomorrow. There is a flood warning in effect.

The current forecast for the river now calls for a peak level of 12.8 feet, to be reached tomorrow afternoon.

Rain dominates the outlook for the forecastable future, with a 100 percent chance of rain today and tonight and a 90 percent chance Thursday and 80 percent chance Thursday night. On Thursday night, some of that precipitation might be snow showers. On Friday there’s a 40 percent chance of rain/snow. After a partly cloudy Saturday, at least a 40 percent chance of rain returns for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
