Units responding to gas line strike in Silver Lake

At about 2:35 p.m., Silver Lake Fire Department and Silver Lake Rescue units along with village police are responding to a report of a struck gas main in the 120 block of E. Larch St. in Silver Lake.

A homeowner struck a gas main while trying to dig out roots, dispatch reports. Person could hear the line hissing.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m. — Police officer reports that struck line is a three-inch pipe that is likely the main line into the house. Office says line is actively leaking. We Energies also responding.

UPDATE 2:51 p.m. — Estimated time of arrival for We Energies crew is about 10 minutes.

UPDATE 2:57 p.m. — We Energies on the scene.

UPDATE 3:03 p.m. — Temporary shut-off in place.

    He’s going to have a huge bill! They should have a diggers hotline in the area for people to call….ohhh wait, they do! Get that person a phone to use next time he wants to dig.
