St. Alphonsus Parish shares the following info about their annual re-enactment of the Passion:
St. Alphonsus Parish in New Munster, WI. is celebrating its 14th year of writing and producing a religious re-enactment of the “Passion Of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.” It will be performed only twice. Presentation dates are March 22 and March 23 at 7:30 p.m. Each year the presentation is based on the gospel writer used in the liturgical cycle. This year, 2013, it will be according to Luke. The cast is made up of adults and youth mostly from the parish, but also from surrounding parishes as well as other religions are included and welcomed. It is truly a “community†event. It starts with Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem, and follows his life all the way through the crucifixion. The Last Supper, one of the most poignant scenes is also a favorite of many. The lighting and the music surrounding this scene really sets the tone. Even as Jesus is sent to the High Priests and then to Pilate, you will experience the ridicule and persecution first hand. You can even here the whipping of Jesus after he is taken away and beaten. The Crucifixion Scene, is by far the most moving scene of all. Jesus’ carrying in of the cross and then being crucified will move you to tears. It will also make you think. This re-enactment of Christs’ passion takes place within St. Alphonsus Church. The architecture of this beautiful church only enhances the dynamics of this event. It truly is a presentation to be seen. In this day and age, when the world seems to be in so much turmoil, it does the heart, mind and spirit good to see something happening that is so spiritual and involving so many people of different backgrounds. It is a great way to start off the holiest season of the year. You do not want to miss this amazing event!
