When the winning bid for a digital text sign came in below budget, the Twin lakes Village Board thought they might be able to replace the existing wood frame structure with something more lasting and still stay at or below budget.

But village administrator Jenniifer Pollitt reported Monday that upgrading to a metal frame would likely take the project over budget.

Consequently, the board seemed to now favor replacing the rotting wood supports and other pieces with wood once again.

The sign is at the North/South Lake Ave and Main Street intersection. The board voted last month to replace the plastic message area of the sign with a new digital message sign.

However, there was still some hope that something else might be able to be done later. Trustee Tom Connolly suggested officials keep their eyes open for ways to upgrade the sign from “someone who can work with us.”
